The Mississippi Insurance Department (MID) doled out around $45 million to Mississippians who were unable to get insurance benefits owed to them in 2024.
The MID Consumer Services Division handled over 10,000 inquiries via emails, phone calls, and written complains, while around 1,600 consumers used the Life Insurance Policy Locator Tool. Over $10 million was returned through traditional inquiries and about $35 million was paid to those made inquiries via the digital tool which was introduced in 2016.
“The Consumer Services division helps Mississippians with complaints regarding insurance companies, producers, and adjusters,” Insurance Commissioner Mike Chaney said. “In many of these cases, benefits were not paid in full or not paid at all and my office stepped in to make sure people got what they were owed. We at MID know that every penny counts. I’m proud of my staff for the quality services they perform.”
A total of nearly $135 million in benefits has been recovered through the LIP Locator Tool in the eight years of its operation.
