The Mississippi State Department of Health is once again teaming up with a handful of local partners to host the third annual Healthy Aging Summit.
MSDH, in conjunction with the Mississippi Public Health Association, AARP Mississippi, and the Mississippi Rural Health Association, will host this year’s summit on Thursday, May 1, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Sheraton Hotel in Flowood.

The event connects health professionals, caregivers, policymakers, researchers, and older adults with a focus on building and advancing age-friendly communities and practices. This year’s summit will specifically focus on aging in rural communities.

Keynote speakers are National Rural Health Association CEO Alan Morgan and Aaron Guest, a professor with the Center for Innovation in Health and Resilient Aging at Arizona State University.
Discussions will center around how health aging efforts can better support older adults and their families, with three panels taking place throughout the day: Practical Solutions to Support Healthy Aging in Rural MS, Population Health and Quality Improvement Projects, and Age-Friendly Policies with Rural Mayors.
