JACKSON, Miss.–You’ll find a lot fewer places to fuel up for under $3 a gallon, and the price jump comes just in time for the Thanksgiving holiday. Mississippi’s average Monday was at $3.12.
The cheapest gas in the state was at $2.89 in Tupelo. The Soco in Amory still had the most expensive at $3.59, according to gasbuddy.com.
“Every part of the petroleum industry has to have a margin to survive economically,” said oil expert Trilby Lundberg, “and what happened was over several months refiners were not making enough on gasoline and they had to cry uncle when crudes went up in price.”
That ended up getting passed on to you.
“The wholesale price hikes are hitting retailers and they have to pass them on, so we will probably see another dime at the pump.”
The national average was at $3.25 Monday. The cheapest was in Tulsa at $2.93 and the highest was in San Diego at $3.58. If you’re traveling, you can plan your gas budget by looking prices in cities along the way at gas buddy .com.
