HORN LAKE, Miss.–The cheapest place you can buy gas in Mississippi today is in Horn Lake, at the Exxon, where it’s $1.55, according to gasbuddy.com. That’s far below the state average of $1.94, which is well below the national average of $2.12 for a gallon. But, Mississippi is far from having the cheapest average gas price.
“In Albuquerque, the low in the survey, it’s just $1.76,” said oil expert Trilby Lundberg, who runs the Lundberg Survey, that tracks gas and oil prices.
As far as state averages go, Missouri had everyone beat, with gas, on average, for $1.76.
In Mississippi there are many places to get it well below that. In fact, besides Horn Lake, you can get it for under $1.70 at stations in Olive Branch, Hattiesburg and Southaven.
“Wholesale gasoline prices were still crashing through last week. They are now hitting the streets,” said Lundberg. Always cautious about where prices might go, she said this weekend that there might be just a few pennies more decline.
“Compared to one year ago, it’s $1.14 lower.”
The most expensive place to get gas in Mississippi is at Dee’s Oil in Oxford where it’s $2.49.
