The Mississippi Farmers Market is extending its hours of operation this summer to allow residents more opportunities to shop for locally-grown food items.
In addition to the market being open on Saturdays from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. year-round, shoppers will be able to visit the capital city venue on Thursdays from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. where vendors will set up shop.
While seasonal items last, patrons can expect to find a variety of produce and herbs along with beef, pork, mushrooms, honey, peanut brittle, bread, croissants, and pastries on Thursdays this summer.
Plenty of dairy products such as milk and cheeses will be on display. Eggs, honey, coffee, jams, jellies, bread, and other baked goods from local sources will also be available for purchase on-site.
“This summer the Mississippi Farmers Market will be open to the public on Thursdays, in addition to our Saturday markets, to allow shoppers more opportunities to purchase fresh, local produce and other agricultural products direct from our Mississippi farmers,” Agriculture Commissioner Andy Gipson said.
“Stop by the Market during your lunch break on Thursdays for fresh, Mississippi-grown products, and join us again on Saturdays when we have an expanded variety of locally grown and raised items as well as specialty foods and works by area artists.”
Those in the Jackson area are invited to visit the Farmers Market Café located inside the Mississippi Farmers Market for breakfast and lunch. The café is open from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. every weekday and 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Saturday. The Genuine MS Store, also located inside the same facility is open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday to Friday and 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. every Saturday.
