Mississippi is seeing an increase in COVID cases due to the Omicron variant, which is now approaching 200 per day. The Mississippi Department of Health (MSDH) says the majority of cases are occurring in those 50 and older, but infection can still cause serious illness and hospitalization for those who are younger, especially if they haven’t been vaccinated.
The MSDH is stressing that boosters are an essential defense for those 65 and older, or with chronic illnesses or underlying medical conditions. If it’s been more than four months since your last shot, you may want to consider a booster.
MSDH offers free COVID-19 testing around the state, and COVID-19 vaccinations and boosters are available at county health departments.
