Mississippi native Tanner Frick took the stage for battle rounds of The Voice season 26 on Monday night, and while he narrowly missed being crowned winner, his performance was good enough for Michael Bublé to steal the aspiring star for his team.
“Tanner Frick was a huge win for me,” Bublé said after Frick was ousted by Tate Renner in the duo’s battle round. “That’s a four-chair turn and a piece of the puzzle that I didn’t have. I needed that country singer, and now, I feel like I’m completely in the game.”
As Bublé pointed out, Frick was one of the more touted contestants from blind auditions. He achieved a rare four-chair turn, which had all the coaches vying for him to be on their team. The Brandon native who now lives in Tennessee ultimately chose Reba McEntire’s team. Renner wasn’t too far behind, though, as he was the recipient of a three-chair turn and chose the Queen of Country Music, as well.
McEntire had a tough choice after Frick and Renner combined for an impressive rendition of “Need A Favor” by Jelly Roll. As the two were feeding off each other, proving synchronous at times, the coaches were all in.
Afterward, Frick and Renner fist-bumped as the coaches were given a chance to fully react to the powerful performance.
“As far as who I thought was better in the battle, it was hard because you guys were complementing each other so well,” Gwen Stefani said. “This is a really tough one for Reba, but she is the Queen of Country so I’m not really worried. I think she’s going to know what to do.”
“We always say this is a battle, but to me, the best part of the battle is when you can complement the other singer. That’s a characteristic both of you brothers have and I just want to commend y’all for that,” Snoop Dogg added, telling McEntire: “This ain’t hip hop. This is country, so you shouldn’t need no advice from me on who to pick.”

To the surprise of both Stefani and Snoop, McEntire admitted that she didn’t know what to do as both Frick and Renner have shown serious growth since blind auditions.
“You guys played your butts off, sang great, and I’m so proud of you on the harmony. I’m telling you there’s some snaky harmony parts in there and you got it perfectly,” McEntire said. “I was so proud of y’all, but I have no clue.”
A moment later, McEntire announced that she was moving forward with Renner. Host Carson Daly then reminded the other coaches that they had a chance to steal Frick or let the Mississippi singer go home. That’s when Bublé pressed the steal button and welcomed Frick to his new team.
“I wasn’t going to let you walk off that stage, brother,” Bublé said to Frick as the two embraced in a hug.
Both Frick and Renner will advance to knockout rounds of the hit NBC singing competition. The Voice airs Monday and Tuesday nights at 8/7c.
