Mississippi Comic Con returns this weekend with its biggest and best lineup yet.
Headlining the 10th annual event will be one of the most recognizable voices in the history of cartoons. Tom Kenny, who started his career as a comedian and on-screen actor, landed the role of SpongeBob in Nickelodeon’s hit show SpongeBob SquarePants in 1999. He’s continued as the voice of Bikini Bottom as the show is set to embark on its 15th season and still seeing record numbers. Other voice acting roles for Kenny have included Heffer Wolfe in Rocko’s Modem Life, the Ice King in Adventure Time, the narrator and mayor in The Powerpuff Girls, Dog in CatDog, and Squanchy in Rick and Morty.
For the movie buffs, there will be plenty of actors at Mississippi Comic Con including Jon Heder and Efren Ramirez of Napoleon Dynamite, Skeet Ulrich of Scream, and Tom Wilson of the Back to the Future trilogy. For the gamers, Nolan North of Assassin’s Creed and Steve Downes of Halo will be making appearances.
Other celebrity guests will include Alan Tudyk (Resident Alien, Firefly), Keith David (The Thing, They Live), John Schneider (The Dukes of Hazzard, Smallville), Vicki Lawrence (The Carol Burnett Show, Mama’s Family), Jason Narvy and Paul Schrier (Mighty Morphin Power Rangers), Johnny Yong Bosch (Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, Bleach), Michelle Ruff (Bleach, Sailor Moon), and Booboo Stewart (Twilight, X-Men). WWE Hall of Famers Kevin Nash and The Godfather will also be in attendance with more guests to be announced in the coming weeks.
“It really speaks to the growth we’ve seen and the way both this company and the people of Jackson treat our guests that we have celebrities asking if they can be added to the show even after we’re already filled with guests,” a statement from Mississippi Comic Con reads.
“You’ll see that play out this year as we’ve continued to bring in more great celebrities and moved them around so that we can fit them all in the building – and we’ve still had to turn a few celebrities away! That doesn’t happen often and it doesn’t happen overnight. You only get that sort of a response from our guests when you build this thing over ten successful years, and we have every attendee who has ever been at one of our previous Mississippi Comic Cons to thank for this event’s success. We hope you’re all able to come out and celebrate our ten year anniversary with us this June.”
Tickets for the June 22-23 event are available through Tixr for $30 per day or $50 for the weekend. Discounts are available for military members with kids under the age of 10 getting in free if accompanied by an adult. Mississippi Comic Con is held annually at the Trade Mart located at 1200 Mississippi Street in Jackson.
