JACKSON, Miss. – Health experts are investigating a salmonella outbreak that has sickened more than 50 people in nine states, including Mississippi.
The source of the outbreak is not known at this time, but it’s believed it may be linked to raw tuna. Most of those who became ill reported eating sushi that had raw tuna in it. Salmonella is the most common source of food poisoning in the U.S. It causes diarrhea, cramping and fever.
Health officials are advising the elderly, young children, pregnant woman and those with weak immune systems to avoid eating raw fish or raw shellfish.
