Corinth’s former chief of police, Fred Johnson, has accepted a new position as president of Mississippi 811.
Johnson, who was appointed to the position last month, will aid Mississippi 811 in its mission to provide underground utility notification service. Residents planning to dig more than 12 inches are asked to dial 8-1-1 before digging. That way, Mississippi 811 can ensure they are not digging into an underground line.
“I am honored and humbled that our board of directors has offered me this opportunity,” Johnson said. “I look forward to continuing our tradition of providing the very best customer service to our membership as well as excavators across the state.”
After an extensive career in law enforcement, Johnson joined Mississippi 811 in 2004 and has worked in several positions, including damage prevention coordinator and call center manager.
Fred Johnson replaces Sam Johnson, who recently retired after serving as president of Mississippi 811 for 39 years.
