JACKSON, Miss.- With all of the controversy surrounding the church shooting in South Carolina, and now the debate over whether the Mississippi state flag should be removed, Mission Mississippi wants to ensure that Christians understand the proper biblical response that needs to be given. They held a press conference on Wednesday in Jackson at Pearl Street AME Church.
Mission Mississippi President, Reverend Neddie Winters says that there’s a big difference between a reaction and a response.
“We are here to encourage Christians to have a biblical response to what has happened, both in terms of the killing of the people and their families and that they have the right kind of response for that, in terms of praying for them, having sympathy and compassion,” Winters said.
Winters also said that the killer needs to be met, not with anger, but with love.
“Many times, people have a difficult time understanding what to do,” Winters added. “They don’t know whether to forgive, they don’t know whether to strike back. They don’t know what to do with this. As a Christian, we have to forgive, we have to love, and we have to do what we’re supposed to do, and get through the pain of it.”
Mission Mississippi will be hosting a prayer and conversational meeting this Saturday, June 27th, from 8 to 12 p.m. at Pearl Street AME Church in Jackson.
