JACKSON, Miss. – Water levels are still high on many Mississippi waterways because of April showers. Marty Pope, hydrologist with the National Weather Service, says levels on major rivers effected by flooding are expected drop below flood stage by Friday of this week. Those rivers include the Pearl River, the Big Black River, and the Chickasawhay River.
“We are looking at a little rain today, that could be fairly light, and then tomorrow it looks like a little bit of the rainfall coming though,” said Pope. “We are not really thinking of it being much of a problem, at least until potentially sometime early next week, possibly having more rainfall that can have potential to start taking the rivers back up again.”
Pope says most of the flash flooding on small creeks responsible for a bulk of the damage caused by flooding weeks ago has resided.
