VICKSBURG, Miss.–Almost every chapter of former Warren County Sheriff Paul Barrett’s long law enforcement career was interesting. He died this week at a ripe old age. Here are some reflective news briefs:
FORMER SHERIFF DIES
You knew him as the sheriff of Warren County for 27 years. Paul Barrett died this week. He was 88. Barrett had to leave office after he was convicted on a federal perjury charge. He served eight months in the federal pen in 1998. Service is Saturday at 2 at Glenwood Funeral Home in Vicksburg.

SHOOTING UP THE NEIGHBORHOOD
Shooting up your neighborhood, you can’t get away with it just because you’re a kid. That lesson may be a hard one to learn for two trigger-happy teenagers Philadelphia cops say shot out windows, shot up cars and fired into businesses. Its more charges this week and next week the judge could charge them as adults.
ESCAPEE BACK IN JAIL
If you’re gonna bust out of jail, apparently having a lot of help won’t keep you free…
Going back to jail and he’s not going back by himself. Talkin’ about escaped inmate Perry Thomas who jumped a jail fence in Hancock County and spent a couple of days on the run. Yesterday he was finally popped at a house in Biloxi. And if you’ve got a friend or relative who breaks out, better not help him out. That’s the lesson being learned by at least eight people, all arrested for helping Thomas hide from the cops.
