Miss. News Briefs: How Far an Escaped Inmate Got, Murder Caught on Video

STARKVILLE, Miss.–You use your cell phone for all kinds of things now days. Wednesday, somebody used theirs for some evidence collecting as they witnessed a killing. Here are some news briefs, very briefly for Thursday:

THE MURDER OF TYRELL GILLESPIE
The murder of Tyrell Gillespie was caught on video at the Louisville Apartments in Starkville about 2:30 Wednesday afternoon. The video showed a fight, then gunshots, then Gillespie while he bled out. Police are using that video and one of the guys involved turned himself in, but police saying they still have not arrested anybody.

FREEDON SUMMER SPEECH

The three civil rights workers killing, 50 years ago. There’s gonna be a speech Sunday in Neshoba County at Mt. Zion Church near where it happened. Rep. John Lewis from Georgia will speak.

ESCAPEE GOES TO THE WOODS
You weren’t in danger for too long. It’s the story of Christopher Mardis who wanted out of jail so bad that he was able to climb onto the roof of the Kemper-Neshoba regional jail Wednesday about 2:30. From there he jumped to the ground, and ran. But he didn’t get far. They found him in the woods, right behind the jail.
