Mississippi’s own Brooke Bumgarner finished second runner-up during Miss America’s Teen competition in Orlando, Fla. on Saturday.
Bumgarner, a Madison native, won Miss Mississippi’s Teen in April to earn a spot alongside 50 delegates at the Walt Disney Theater at the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts. After a week’s worth of interviews and preliminary rounds, winning the evening gown phase of the competition, she was named a finalist for the crown. While Miss Arkansas’ Teen Peyton Boling was named overall winner, Bumgarner wasn’t too far behind placing third.
Bumgarner sang “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” during the talent phase of the competition. Through the second runner-up finish, she earned a $13,000 scholarship to go along with more than $5,000 in scholarship assistance won at the Miss Mississippi’s Teen competition.

A recent graduate of Madison Central, Bumgarner is the daughter of Brad and Kami Bumgarner. She was the student body president of her high school, where she also was a member of the National Honor Society, National Beta Club, Mystix Dance Team, and named homecoming queen.
As for the Miss America portion of the competition, Miss Mississippi Becky Williams did not place as Miss Alabama Abbie Stockard captured the coveted crown. Finishing as first runner-up and second runner-up, respectively, were Miss Texas Annette Addo-Yobo and Miss Tennessee Carly Vogel.
