The Mississippi highway patrol has announced the results of their Labor Day enforcement period.
“We investigated 124 traffic crashes which are down considerably versus last year where we had 175 crashes investigated,” said Captain Johnny Poulos with the Mississippi Highway Patrol. “We are very pleased about that. Unfortunately, we had three fatalities over the course of that period. One fatality is too many.”
Poulos said that overall the MHP did not see as many people on the roads over the holiday period.
The Labor Day enforcement period began on Friday, September 1st at 6 p.m. and ended Monday, September 4th at midnight.
The MHP issued 3,843 citations along with 58 DUI arrests.
Of the 124 vehicle crashes that happened 42 people were injured and three fatalities were recorded.
