As Labor Day weekend approaches, the Mississippi Highway Patrol will be out in full force.
The MHP will begin their ‘2018 Labor Day Travel Enforcement Period’ this Friday at midnight, and it will run through Monday night.
With many Mississippi motorist on the roads, all available troopers will be out to protect you. In a news release from the MHP, they stated that they’ll be focusing on combating speeding and reckless driving.
The MHP specifically warned that drivers need to avoid texting while driving or any other forms of distracted driving.
If you intend to drink over the weekend, be sure that you have a sober designated driver to get you home safely.
Safety checkpoints will also be established throughout the period to promote seatbelt usage and remove impaired drivers from the roadways.
“We’re hoping all motorists and families will enjoy the last holiday weekend of the summer and arrive at their destinations safely,” the MHP said.
The MHP investigated 124 crashes including 3 fatalities during the 2017 Labor Day enforcement period.
