The Mississippi Highway Patrol will begin 2017 Thanksgiving Holiday Enforcement Period on Wednesday, November 22 at 6:00 p.m.
During the enforcement period, patrol officer will be out in an effort to enforce traffic laws and reduce accidents. MHP will participate in operation Crash Awareness and Reduction Effort during the holiday period.
It wraps up on Sunday at midnight.
In cooperation with Operation CARE, all available troopers will be assigned to saturation patrols to combat speeding and distracted driving issues. Safety checkpoints will be set up to remove impaired drivers from the roadways and make sure everyone is staying buckled up.
Last year during the Thanksgiving period, MHP investigated 171 crashes with two fatalities and made 67 DUI arrests on state and federal highway systems. They’re asking folks on the road to join in making Mississippi safer during the holiday season.
