Smoke, a Mississippi Highway Patrol K-9, is back at the home office. The nine-year-old Labrador retriever was found Wednesday around 2:30 a.m. about a quarter mile from his base in Lee County.
Smoke went missing Sunday. “His handler was washing the kennel when Smoke took off,” said k-9 Unit Commander Elmo Townsend. “Now the handler says a weight has been lifted and he is glad to have his dog back.”
The Mississippi Highway Patrol said Smoke is the only bomb dog in the northern region of the state and has a critical role in the department.
