A Mississippi doctor will avoid jail time following his role in the infamous cream scheme that cost insurers $515 million.
51-year-old Dr. Gregory Auzenne of Meridian entered a guilty plea earlier this week for his failure to disclose information regarding expensive pain cream, according to The Clarion-Ledger. He was ordered to pay $136,623 and will spend the next five years on probation.
During his sentencing hearing, Auzenne vowed to become a better person.
“I realize I made mistakes in the past,” Auzenne said. “I’m really sorry. I will work harder than ever to be a better person.”
According to prosecutors, Auzenne was accused of causing $18 million in fraud through his habitual decision to sign reprinted prescription forms for medicines.
