MERIDIAN,Miss.- Meridian Regional Airport has been seeing an increase in passengers.
Up over 300 percent since this time last year, said Tom Williams, Meridian Regional Airport Authority President. WTOK reported that numbers were up during the summer and the months before.
The airport is serviced by one of the largest airlines in the world, American Airlines.
The airport has been making lots of changes and has a vision for where it would like to grow to.
“We would like to get an afternoon flight on Sunday,” says Williams. “Maybe we’d like to get a third flight. I’m afraid that that’s a ways away, and it’ll be a real challenge to get there, but we’re holding up our end of the bargain.”
They are due to receive a $1,000,000.00 grant by 2017 that will go toward improving taxiways, upgrading signs, and installing LED lighting.
The airport has put an emphasis on customer service with free doughnuts, coffee, and even free ices for flyers. They hope to be able to continue to provide reasonable airfare to keep people coming back and flying with them.
