Mendenhall High School is on a soft lockdown due to an online threat that was posted on social media.

According to the Simpson County Sheriff’s Office, deputies are at the scene and there is no immediate threat to faculty or students. Law enforcement officials have determined that the post in question originated out of the state of Mississippi and was reposted in Simpson County.

During a soft lockdown, educators lock the doors to their classrooms and continue teaching.

Mendenhall High School is the latest educational facility in Mississippi to come under threat. According to Mississippi Department of Public Safety Commissioner Sean Tindell, more than 94 calls have been made by Magnolia State schools requesting law enforcement assistance due to a threat since the 2024-25 school year began, compared to 66 total in the previous academic calendar.

A bulk of these threats have occurred across the state within the past two weeks.
