The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency has been granted $2 million from the federal government to study Jackson’s two water treatment facilities for future updates.
First announced by Congressman Bennie Thompson, the money is being provided by the Federal Emergency Management Agency. This grant will serve to fund a comprehensive plan and design study of the J.H. Fewell Water Treatment Plant and the O.B. Curtis Water Treatment Plant in Mississippi’s capital city.
The planning and design study will work to help the city determine the best mitigation action which may include:
- Consolidation of the plants
- Upgrading the plants
- Replacement of the plants
All of the above actions would be taken to effectively mitigate the vulnerability of the city’s water distribution system and reliable drinking water to service its current population.
FEMA obligates funding for this project directly to the state. It is Mississippi’s responsibility to ensure that the eligible sub-recipient receives this award
