Colonel Greg Michel, the executive director of the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency, has been admitted to the hospital due to COVID-19 complications.
According to a tweet from the agency’s director of external affairs, Malory White, Michel “remains in good spirits” as he battles pneumonia.
“MEMA Executive Director Greg Michel has been admitted to the hospital as he battles pneumonia, a complication brought on by COVID-19. The director remains in good spirits and is grateful to the medical staff treating him and all those suffering during this pandemic. (1/2)

This news comes eleven days after MEMA confirmed that Michel had tested positive for COVID-19.
“MEMA continues to operate as usual while taking every precaution necessary to protect our staff. Our thoughts are with the director as he fights this virus,” White added in a second social media post.
White has been a reassuring presence throughout 2020, leading MEMA’s efforts to assist Mississippians affected by severe weather and through the distribution of PPE as the COVID-19 pandemic continues.
