The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency has been awarded nearly $2.5 million in federal funding to prepare for natural disasters following the March 24 tornadoes that devastated much of the state.
Announced by Congressman Bennie Thompson, the funding was made available by the Federal Emergency Management Agency for MEMA to implement protective measures for severe storms, straight-line winds, and tornadoes after the incident that left more than 20 people dead and thousands with damaged homes and businesses.

FEMA obligates funding for this project directly to the state. According to federal officials, it is the state’s responsibility to ensure that the eligible sub-recipients receive this award.
Following a review process and upon receipt of appropriate documentation, the state will provide money to each sub-recipient on a reimbursable basis.
