WARREN COUNTY- The Mississippi Department of Transportation has announced that repairs for Muddy Bayou Bridge will start this week.
After a recent inspection by MDOT they found severe decay to the timer pile bents supporting the bridge. The repairs will replace the old bents with new steal pile bents and caps to prevent future deterioration.
Once a plan was made on reconstruction a contract for the emergency bridge repair was awarded to Joe McGee Construction Company Inc. The bridge is expected to be closed until May 26 for repairs. The cost is estimated at $600,000, with a fine of $10,000 for every day the bridge is not open after the 26th.
“This is the value of having engineers who have experience working with the kind of bridges we have in Mississippi,” said MDOT Executive Director Melinda McGrath. “Crews will shore up the bridge to open as quickly as possible, and we can look at building a replacement bridge when funding is available down the road.”
