When you think of Mississippi exports, you think of poultry, cotton, catfish and corn.
But the Mississippi Development Authority believes Mississippi has more to offer than food. That’s why they’re taking 15 Magnolia state business owners to Dubai and Jordan next month.
“We have faith that it is going to be a productive trip,” said MDA Executive Director Glenn McCollough.
McCollough said part of the reason for the trip is to show the world that Mississippi doesn’t just produce product–this is where products are perfected.
“We export over $10 billion dollars worth of product globally every year,” said McCollough.
98 percent of Jordan’s food is imported. McCollough said this is an opportunity for Mississippi exports to shine.
“We are very good at growing things like rice, cotton, catfish and corn,” said McCollough.
But in Dubai, there’s a growing demand for products that Mississippi has the leading edge on; though many don’t realize it.
“There’s a demand for safety security technology,” said McCollough. “We have Mississippi companies who are on the cutting edge of security technology, and construction, and construction technology.”
MDA has scheduled the trip for the Middle East for March 26-30.
