Security has been upped at education centers in the McComb School District as a high school football game has been rescheduled to take place without spectators following a massive fight on Monday.
Earlier this week, a violent altercation involving multiple students broke out at McComb High School. Sources close to the situation tell SuperTalk Mississippi News that the fight was gang-related, though law enforcement officials have yet to verify those reports.
At this time, no arrests have been announced in connection with the incident. However, in response to the violent interaction between several pupils, officials have decided to move Friday’s football matchup between McComb High School and nearby rival South Pike to 2 p.m. with no fans in attendance. This year’s contest is hosted by South Pike and will be taking place at Colee Field.
“Due to safety concerns, the Green and Gold Bowl scheduled for Friday, September 27, will not be open to the public,” a statement from the McComb School District reads. “Only participating teams and essential personnel will be admitted into the stadium.”
Additionally, safety and security measures have been upped at all education centers in the McComb School District. According to district officials, those found in violation of school rules or state law on any campus will be held accountable.
“As we continue our safety efforts, routine and random searches are being conducted. We are also heavily monitoring campus entry and exit of all students, staff, and visitors,” the statement continues. “All operations have been normal with no major student incidents and no weapons being found on or near our campuses. We will continue to ensure that student and staff safety remains our focus.”
