Mazda recall for cracked fuel pump rings

JACKSON, Miss.- Mazda has announced a recall for 2004-2008 RX-8 cars due to potential fuel leaks.

However, the company does not know when the recall will begin because currently no parts are available.

This recall covers nearly 69,500 models of the vehicle.

The problem is caused by poor heat resistance on top of the fuel tank. This then causes the fuel pump rings to melt or deteriorate from the heat of the engine and exhaust pipe. If left un-repaired this could lead to fires within the vehicle as well as leaked gasoline on hot surfaces.

in 2013 Mazda received a report that this was a possible problem with the seals so they manufacturer requested the effected parts be done away with and an investigation began.

Mazda found that certain parts that were bad were one color and the good parts were another. The difference had everything to do with heat exposure.

Owners will be contacted to let them know a recall has been issued by no parts are available yet. They will receive a second notice once repairs can be made.

If there are any questions you can call Mazda customer service at 800-222-5500 with the recall number 0516J.

News Mississippi contacted a local Mazda dealer who declined to comment.
