As a former conservative newspaper CEO and publisher (I was center-right, but there weren’t many of us), I was slow to come back on board with President Donald Trump this time for a host of valid reasons.
In the lead-up to the 2016 election, I actually wrote a piece about why I believed Trump would get elected. It struck a nerve and was shared thousands of times on Facebook. Many of my liberal friends in media were disappointed in me, not necessarily because of my views, but because I chose to share them.
However, after a series of events following the last election, I became disillusioned with Trump. I’ll spare you the internal process, but something dawned on me after the first assassination attempt on Trump and after watching how the Democrats handled then-President Joe Biden, particularly in putting up a disastrous candidate in then-Vice President Kamala Harris.
I am who I am. I don’t hide, but I’m not in your face either – especially these days. I’m enjoying my independence and hosting my SuperTalk Mississippi radio shows in retirement; it’s been a joy. That being said, after writing a recent social media post about Trump and Elon Musk, I started hearing privately from my liberal friends.
Some expressed disappointment once again, but others shared how much they agreed with me. They are center-left. The truth is that most of us in America are near the middle in our politics, and we are fed up with the current state of affairs. Here is the message I shared on X:
Let’s fix America first, damn it!
Our economy grew over many years to become the most successful in the world. Innovation, entrepreneurship, and capitalism thrived here. Efforts to keep costs down increased as capitalists, investors, and companies sought to boost their bottom lines. This led to the rise of globalism, which pushed manufacturing out of America to countries with cheap labor. In the process, “grifters” emerged – individuals or entities that exploit the system for personal gain, often without regard for the consequences.
There are too many grifters at various levels around the world, innovating their own form of “innovation,” where our taxpayer money flows to other countries for a host of causes that tug at the heartstrings of Americans. Many of these causes are indeed noble, but too many are not. However, money passes through so many layers that by the time it reaches its intended purpose, it is only a fraction of what it was initially. Many people became rich from this scheme while the American taxpayer ultimately footed the bill. Our deficit continued to soar while needs here at home went unaddressed for years. Meanwhile, many Americans sat back, complacent and content to accept America for what it is, all while struggling to make ends meet. The grifters were pleased with this status quo, their scheme hidden from sight and mind.
Then came Donald Trump, Elon Musk, and Trump’s inner circle – smart individuals who understood the intricacies of this scheme. They shone a bright light on the situation, and now Americans are pissed. Citizens now understand the process like never before, thanks to platforms like X. We are engaged like never before. We want Trump and his team to root out fraud and abuse. He said he was going to do it; he was elected to do it. While we know that obliterating USAID and rolling the good parts into the State Department is just a fraction of the financial challenges we face, we believe it represents the mismanagement that likely exists across government in every single area. Just as we Americans must keep our financial affairs in order, it’s time for our government to do the same. We expect nothing less.
AI and other information technologies, combined with other smart auditing approaches and a growing awareness among Americans that our government must be reengineered, will drive us forward. The case for action is becoming clearer with each passing day. And the more we learn, the madder we get. It will be messy, loud, and hard, as globalists, grifters, and Democrats spend enormous amounts of money and energy to fight this. Judges will slow things down, but these Band-Aids are coming off. We are frustrated that this didn’t happen a long time ago. But now we know! So put in your ear protection because the screaming will be loud, and keep that popcorn close. We want a smaller government, and we will get it… finally.
More and more of us are recognizing that government spending has led to inflation. We see very pressing problems at home – homelessness, hunger, decaying infrastructure, mental health issues, fentanyl, and so much more. Let’s fix America first, damn it! This is what is meant by the “golden age of America.” We are headed there. This is what a growing number of people are thinking: the globalists, grifters, and anyone supporting them can kiss my ass. There’s no going back. Let’s make America great again!
