The subject shot by a police officer during an altercation in Hattiesburg has been identified.
Authorities with the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation report that on Monday, a squabble broke out while an agent with the Drug Enforcement Agency and a state task force officer were transporting two subjects to the federal courthouse.
One of the subjects, identified as Kevin Sutherland, and the federal agent began to fight with the agent sustaining injuries. The other officer on site then discharged his gun, striking Sutherland.
The subject was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The DEA agent’s condition is unknown at this time.
MBI officials are investigating the incident.
