LEAKE COUNTY, Miss. — A body found in Leake County has been identified as Cortez Aliandie Coburn. He was 28-years-old and from Philadelphia, Miss. On Jan. 29 deputies tried to help him out after his car ran out of gas. When they asked him about outstanding warrants he had for resisting arrest and having paraphernalia, he took off into the woods.
A National Guard helicopter found him dead after flying over the woods Friday.
“You remember how cold it was last week and he was out there for a while. Actually, his body was found in a creek,” said Mississippi Bureau of Investigations spokesperson Warren Strain. “Could have drowned, could have been hypothermia.”
Strain says they are not ruling it out, but foul play is less than likely. The body has been sent to the state crime lab for autopsy.
