A man was taken into custody Saturday evening in Olive Branch after police found him asleep in his car with a bottle of alcohol, marijuana, and a rifle lying in his lap.
Members of the Olive Branch Police Department were dispatched for a wellness check call after a passerby reported a stopped vehicle at the intersection of Highway 302 and Craft Road. Officers got no response when attempting to speak to the driver and were not able to see into the car because of dark-tinted windows.
Officers observed “slight movement from the driver, detected a strong odor of marijuana emanating from within the vehicle, and saw a rifle in their lap,” the department reported to USA Today. After calling for backup and making multiple attempts to contact the driver, a beanbag round was used to access the inside of the car.
20-year-old Jermel James Moore was lying inside with a bottle of alcohol and a rifle. A drone was sent through the window, which is said to have startled Moore. He promptly drove to a nearby Walgreens parking lot where he was arrested.
After being taken into custody, Moore was charged with possession of a controlled substance enhanced by a firearm, possession of paraphernalia, obstructing traffic, open container, and window tint violations.
