OCEAN SPRINGS, Miss.–If you own a construction company, you’d better take every precaution to make sure your workers are safe. That’s the message from the federal Occupation Safety and Health Administration after they fined Thomas Matthews Framing of Biloxi almost $60,000 for safety violations that led to the death of Gerald Moran, 42.
Moran fell about 20 ft. from a house that was being built in Ocean Springs. OSHA said Monday that the company failed to put up a guard rail that could have prevented the fall and they also did not report Moran’s fall, which led to spinal cord and brain injuries.
The company can appeal and could get the fine reduced. They have 15 days. OSHA said the company has not been fined before.
