SOUTHAVEN, Miss.- A man from Memphis died Saturday night after attending a concert by the band Widespread Panic. 30-year-old Memphis resident Tony Goode and his wife were on their way home from the concert, after the couple left the event. Goode was intoxicated.
Goode family attorney Tim Edwards told the Clarion-Ledger that Goode unexpectedly exited the vehicle as his wife was driving. He then began acting “erratically.”
Someone passing by on the road called the police, and Edwards said that when the police got there, they tied him up and placed him face-down on the stretcher.
Apparently Goode, who does have asthma, repeated told police “I can’t breathe” throughout the whole incident.
Goode died at Baptist Memorial Hospital in DeSoto County Saturday night, just two hours after being detained by the Southaven Police Department.
WMC Action News 5 reports that witnesses claim that a possible LSD overdose could be the reason for Goode’s erratic behavior.
The body will be sent to Jackson for an autopsy and toxicology report. Edwards said no one is accusing the police of anything, and that they won’t know anything until they get the reports back.
News Mississippi has put a call in to the Southaven Police Department, but they were unavailable for comment.
