Convicted serial rapist Daniel Ray Skaggs has passed away just weeks after being sentenced to life in prison.
The 66-year-old Oklahoma native was found guilty by a Rankin County grand jury after evidence collected in the 1990s matched DNA collected from the suspect earlier this year.
Skaggs’ was convicted of raping Benji Kirkbride in August of 1990. He allegedly hid in the victim’s van, held her at knifepoint, and forced her to drive to an undisclosed location in Brandon after sexually assaulting her.
Evidence gathered by a DNA rape kit assisted in linking the 66-year-old to the crime. He was given two life sentences for numerous charges of rape, kidnapping, and armed robbery
Madison and Rankin County District Attorney John Bramlett added that officials believe other women were attacked by Skaggs in numerous states throughout the 70s, 80s, and 90s.
Skaggs’ cause of death has not been released at this time.
