A man has been arrested & charged after allegedly shooting at a Pearl police officer over the weekend.
A media release from the department says that 24-year-old Oscar Willie Leontez Curtis, of East Cohea Street in Jackson, was charged with one count of assault on a law enforcement officer. According to the PPD, the officer was not injured in the shooting.
“Thankfully and by the grace of God combined with the officer’s training and quick response, the officer did not sustain any physical injuries as a result of the incident,” the department said.
Minimal details were released about the shooting which occurred between Pearson & Airport Road on Saturday, and Pearl officials have handed the investigation over to the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation. The statement says that more information will be released “once it’s allowed.”
The department thanked the public for their support and made it clear that this type of crime will not be tolerated.
“The City of Pearl, as well as Rankin County law enforcement, will not tolerate any attempts to harm our communities, let alone our public safety officers that have taken oaths to protect and preserve our society.”
After being arrested, Curtis was transported to the Rankin County Jail.
