Man believed to have drowned while trying to recover boat at Moon Lake

No foul play is suspected after a man’s body was found in a Coahoma County lake on Wednesday night.

Coahoma County Sheriff Mario Magsby, Sr. said in a news release that deputies were dispatched at approximately 7:30 p.m. to Moon Lake after a concerned citizen called in a truck that had been abandoned on the boat ramp for hours. Shortly after 9:30 p.m., members of Coahoma County Search and Rescue along with Mississippi Game Wardens discovered the body.

Magsby added that it’s believed the victim was trying to recover his boat when he drowned. His family has been notified. However, his identity is not being made public at this time.

Moon Lake is near the junction of Highways 61 and 49 in Lula.
