Gulfport law enforcement authorities have arrested a man accused of shooting a juvenile on Christmas day.
40-year-old Joshua Wells was taken into custody Thursday for one count of aggravated assault in connection with the shooting.
Gulfport police were dispatched after reports of gunfire ringing out on 44th Avenue and 13th Street. Officers found an unidentified juvenile victim who had sustained injuries from a gunshot wound at the scene. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment and is reportedly in stable condition.
Wells was allegedly involved in a physical altercation at a nearby residence, leading to him brandishing a firearm and firing it, striking the victim. GPD officials say he then fled the scene in a black 2017 Chevrolet Impala.
A brief manhunt ended late Thursday morning in Wells’ arrest after he was taken into custody without incident.
