A man accused of kidnapping a teenage girl in Lee County has been shot and killed.
First reported by WTVA, the fatal shooting took place on Wednesday afternoon in connection to the kidnapping of a 13-year-old girl. Lee County Coroner Carolyn Green confirms that 22-year-old Naquaris Williams was killed by the gunfire.
Lee County Sheriff Jim Johnson told the local TV station that the teen’s parents used the Life360 app to track their daughter’s location after notifying police about the alleged kidnapping. The parents’ first attempt at finding their child was unsuccessful as they were sent near the Lee County Industrial Park
A second attempt to locate the teen led the parents to the city of Shannon where the parents found their daughter with a man who fit the description of the accused kidnapper. Then shots were fired, killing Williams, who was pronounced dead just after 4 p.m. He was reportedly found deceased in a grassy area on Washington Drive.
Police have taken a person of interest into custody for the shooting, but that individual’s identity has not been released at this time. Williams’ body has been taken to the state medical examiner’s office for an autopsy.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident. This is a developing story.
