BATON ROUGE, La. – The double murder suspect, accused of killing U.S. Marshal Josie Wells of Mississippi during a Tuesday shootout, has died.
The East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner’s office confirmed Jamie Croom died early Wednesday. He had been in the hospital since Tuesday’s shooting. Croom was wanted for the February 18 shooting deaths of a brother and sister in Louisiana. Wells was part of the team of law enforcement officers who went to a motel to arrest Croom for the murders. During an exchange of gunfire, Croom, Wells and a third officer were shot. Wells died hours later. The condition of the third person was not immediately known.
