JACKSON, Miss.–If you live in an area that flooded earlier this week, you should be aware that more rain, some of it possibly heavy, is on its way to the Magnolia State. It should arrive beginning Sunday night.
“The area could see another one to three inches of rain, Most likely some localized areas are gonna see higher than that, three to five inches,” said National Weather Service Meteorologist Chad Entremont. “Pinpointing where that may occur is almost impossible at this point, but the potential exists.”
In addition to heavy rain, the state could see wind, hail, dangerous lightening and tornadoes.
Entremont said the air will be moist and warm by Monday, when the storm system is set to arrive, providing the right ingredients for severe storms.
But, it’s flooding that will likely have many Mississippians on edge again after rain last weekend that drove creeks and rivers over their banks and caused closures of main highways like 80 and 49.
“It’s Friday now, and we have a couple of more days to let everything go down,” said Entremont. “But the problem is water levels are still elevated and the soil is still saturated, so any additional rainfall is only going to aggravate what is already occurring.”
