MADISON, MISS– A woman believed to be suicidal was shot by a Madison police officer Thursday night, according to Captain Kevin Newman.
When officers arrived to the South Place Drive home on Thursday, they learned that the woman had fired a shotgun at someone else in the home. That person was not hurt.
At that point, the woman had barricaded herself in the bathroom. When the Special Response Team broke through the door, the woman began to fire the shotgun at officers.
One officer returned fire, hitting the woman three times–two in the arm, one in the chest.
She is in stable condition at University of Mississippi Medical Center.
The officer who shot her is off patrol duty, pending the investigation.
