A Madison man will spend nearly a decade behind bars for possessing sexually explicit materials involving children.
Last week, Madison County Circuit Court Judge Dewey Arthur sentenced Britton Butler to 40 years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections with eight years to serve day for day without the possibility of parole and five years of supervised probation.

This case was initiated from several cyber tips regarding Butler’s alleged exploitation of minors online. His case was investigated and prosecuted by the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office.
He is ordered to pay a $1,000 assessment to the Mississippi Children’s Trust Fund, a $1,000 assessment to the Mississippi Crime Victim Compensation Fund, and $1,000 to the Victims of Human Trafficking and Commercial Sexual Exploitation Fund. Butler will also have to register as a sex offender upon release.
“My office will continue to hold those who exploit and prey on Mississippi’s children accountable,” Attorney General Lynn Fitch said. “Together, we can make Mississippi a safer place for everyone. But we need your help. If you suspect a child is being exploited or abused, please report it to my office. Your tip could save a life.”
