MADISON, Miss.- Madison Central’s academic decathlon team took home first place in the nation beating out 54 other teams for the national championship.
There are 19 people on Madison Central’s team. They all raised money so the team could go to Hawaii to compete in the competition.
The teams coach explained that the academic decathlon is an academic course made up of ten different areas of competition. The curriculum changes every year and this year’s curriculum was based on the events that led to War World I and the peace that followed the war. The students had to study the history of war, music history, art selections, read a novel, use advanced math, essay reading, economics, interviewing and speech making.
Austin Brown Madison Central Principal, “We are extremely proud of the entire team. We know how hard they have all worked and this is a great honor.”
