The Mississippi Braves will remain as the Double-A affiliate of the big league squad in Atlanta through 2021 “and beyond.” This according to an announcement made by the team Wednesday morning as 40 minor league teams will be cut by Major League Baseball.
“On behalf of the M-Braves, we are honored to be invited to continue as the Atlanta Braves Double-A franchise,” Mississippi Braves Vice President and General Manager Pete Laven said. “Since 2005, fans in central Mississippi have witnessed future major league talent on the diamond at Trustmark Park and we look forward to featuring the stars of tomorrow here in Pearl for years to come.”
Since the team arrived in Mississippi, the M-Braves have produced 150 alumni that have gotten to the major leagues, including 2020 NL MVP Freddie Freeman. Brian Snitker, the 2020 NL Manager of the Year, was the M Braves’ manager for its inaugural 2005 season.
The current Atlanta Braves roster features 23 former M-Braves including stars like Freeman, 2B Ozzie Albies, P Max Fried, LF Ronald Acuña Jr., and more.
Like the rest of MILB, the M-Braves’ 2020 season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
