COLUMBUS, Miss. – A Lowndes County teenager was arrested and charged with capital murder and arson following the house fire set last week to hide the death of a woman inside.
The medical examiner’s report revealed the woman’s death was not a result of the fire last week and that’s when the homicide investigation began.
Sheriff Mike Arledge says, 17-year-old Traveil Hicks was arrested Friday around 2 p.m. after an investigation led police to the teen that lived only a few houses down from the woman on Downs Road.
Gwen Roberson, 46, was found in the kitchen on August 11 around 3 a.m. after firefighters were called to the trailer home by neighbors.
Alredge said, Hicks is charged with capital murder and arson and will appear in Justice Court in Lowndes County this afternoon.
