An escaped inmate from the Lowndes County Jail has been captured after being on the run for over two days.

According to officials, 42-year-old Terry Brooks was arrested near the 1300 block of 9th Avenue North in Columbus at approximately 2:00 a.m. on Friday morning.

Brooks escaped from the prison with 36-year-old Phillip Shane House around 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday after the two reportedly cut out a portion of a window and crawled through the prison’s ventilation system.

Both then made it over the perimeter fence before going under the second fence. House was captured by officers moments later while Brooks fled on foot.

An additional suspect identified as Steven Jennings was taken into custody on Thursday and charged with conspiracy to commit a crime after aiding in the two inmates’ escape.

Brooks was serving time for charges connected to the murder of 20-year-old Frank Edwards on 12th Avenue South in Columbus in December 2020.

He was also arrested by U.S. Marshals in St. Louis, Mo. one year ago after jumping out of a two-story building while carrying cocaine and a gun.
