Authorities discovered a large amount of cocaine and fentanyl during a routine traffic stop in Lowndes County.
On Monday morning, deputies with the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office pulled over a 2018 Chevrolet Equinox driving on Highway 82 for a traffic violation. During the stop, probable cause was developed and resulted in a search of the vehicle.
That’s when law enforcement discovered seven kilograms of cocaine and seven kilograms of fentanyl, resulting in the arrest of the driver. Daryl Dewayne Crowden, 45, of Jacksonville, Fla., was taken into custody and charged with aggravated trafficking.
“What started as a simple traffic stop ended with some evil drugs being taken off the streets,” Sheriff Eddie Hawkins said. “I’m proud of the good work our deputies did to take these drugs off the street and send this drug trafficker to jail.”
Assisting the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office were agents from the Madison Police Department, Rankin/Madison Interdiction Team, and the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics.
Crowden was booked in the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center and awaits an initial court appearance.
