JACKSON, Miss.–Congratulations may be in order. But, it’s actually nothing you’ve done as a Mississippian, This handshake goes to the crude oil suppliers and refiners. That’s who’s responsible for your state having the lowest gas prices in the country.
Oil expert Trilby Lundberg said it’s been a drop of about 34 cents since June. Now Jackson is the U.S. city with the lowest average price at $3.06.
“Since demand is not galloping, the overall supply situation for gasoline is very healthy,” she said.
But, it’s not just the crude oil prices that have it lower. Lundberg said it’s also less strict regulations that mean suppliers are already making the “winter blend”.
“There’s also a crash in ethanol prices.”
The lowest you’ll find a gallon of regular in Mississippi is $2.87 in Southaven.
